What is the daily loss limit?

How the daily loss limit works on Orion.

What it is

The daily loss limit is a fixed daily cap. It does not move, trail, or adjust based on your current equity or profits. It is always calculated on your starting balance for that account, and stays the same every single day regardless of performance.

ℹ️
Fixed, not dynamic
Whether you are up $10,000 or down $5,000, your daily limit stays exactly the same. It does not breathe with your profits, and it does not tighten when you are in drawdown.

How the baseline is calculated

The daily loss limit is calculated as a percentage of your initial account balance, the starting balance of your account when it was created. This number never changes. It resets each calendar day at 22:00 UTC.

Quick example
Account: $100,000 · Daily limit: 3% = $3,000, always.
Up $10,000? Still $3,000. Down $5,000? Still $3,000. The limit never moves.

What counts toward the limit

  • Realized losses from closed trades
  • Unrealized (floating) losses on open positions, in real time
  • Swap and commission charges
⚠️
Equity counts, not just balance
If a floating loss on an open position pushes your equity below the threshold, even temporarily, the account closes.

Practical example

Your account starts at $50,000. Your daily limit is fixed at 3% = $1,500 every day. Your equity cannot drop below $48,500 at any point that day, regardless of whether you are up or down from previous sessions. You open a trade that moves against you by $600, leaving you $900 of buffer remaining for the day.

Your remaining limit is always visible
The Client Section shows your daily loss remaining in near real-time.
